Feeding hay is a common practice during the winter.

Regardless of what methods are used to feed hay, it is important to remove the plastic twine or net wrap off the bales before feeding. These materials do not readily break down and can become lodged in the digestive tract, leading to death in some cases.

It is also important to pick up any twine or net wrap that may have fallen off bales or been accidentally dropped in the pasture because cattle have a tendency to chew on these materials even when they are not associated with hay.
