Proper Livestock Carcass Disposal

Unfortunately, sometime animals die. Proper carcass disposal is important for multiple reasons including animal health, environmental stewardship, public safety, and public perception.

Natural decomposition is the most common method used to dispose of carcasses. Scavengers and insects will generally clean up everything but the skeleton. The remaining skeleton can then be easily burned by building a brush pile on top of the skeletal remains.

Other disposal methods include burying, burning, and composting. Carcasses should never be dumped in bodies of water or creek beds. It is important to consider all factors when deciding what the most appropriate disposal approach is for each situation.
