Keeping good reproductive records is important for cow-calf operations. These records are critical when determining the financial success of the operation and they can also help identify minor health or other problems before they become severe. At minimum the number of cows exposed to bulls during the breeding season and the number of calves weaned should be recorded and used to calculate the % of calves weaned. This is calculated by dividing the number of calves weaned by the number of cows exposed to bulls; don’t forgot to include any cows that were culled. This number should be 85% or higher.
